This handbook is the first in a series of B arts handbooks, being produced to mark 40 years of the company's work.
Just as likely to be found in a slick business ethos as a radical theatre programme, co-creation is a slippery term that seems to be able to capture a process, experience, and a result. A way of transforming how to do things by doing them together, co-creation has the potential to engender and encourage access to arts, connection throughout communities, and creative agency amongst professional and non-professional artists alike. Yet, what it means to “co-create,” and why it is so difficult to define, puts the term and its subversive potential at risk of being diluted. This handbook is a resource for artists who want to work collaboratively for change, and compiles stories, tips, and foul language drawn from interviews with our artists and the B arts community. The first of a series of handbooks produced by B arts about their work, history, and future, the Co-creation Handbook explores a vital aspect of making art everywhere, with everyone, right now.
