Creative Skills For Surviving and Thriving on a Desert Island
FREE CREATIVE WORKSHOPS FOR 8-17 YEAR OLDS!
In Summer 2022, B arts hosted a series of Creative Skills Workshops at Meir Community Education Centre, on the theme of Surviving and Thriving on a Desert Island!
Take a look at the list of sessions we hosted below.
Week 1: Wednesday 3rd August
DIY Tool Making and Clay modelling: We will be joined by a ceramicist, and will be making the tools needed to survive on a desert island out of clay!
Week 2: Wednesday 10th August
DIY Dying and Bandana making: We will be making our own dyes using natural ingredients, and having a go at leaf, flower and berry bashing; and using these to dye cloth. With the support of a textiles artist, we will then turn this cloth into Bandanas!
Week 3: Wednesday 17th August
Photography Challenge: Using black and white disposable cameras provided, we will complete a series of photography challenges related to our surviving and thriving desert island theme. We will also look at digital photography skills, including composition, exposure etc
Week 4: Wednesday 24th August
Developing film photography: The group will be supported to self develop the film images take the week before (including exploring the science behind how this works). We will also have a paper making workshop and short creative writing activity—making messages in a bottle. As its the final session we will have mini Island Celebration event (including mocktails/music).
All sessions were free and open access to 8-17 year olds living in Stoke on Trent.
This activity was funded by Staffordshire Space, as part of their Summer Holidays 2022 programme.
