Tomorrow’s Garden
Tomorrow’s Garden was developed between September 2020 and April 2021.
Exploring what we want to leave behind in 2020 and what we want to take with us into 2021, Tomorrow’s Garden combines the unique heritage of Stoke on Trent with ambitious artistic responses by Stoke-based artists and communities.
Originally envisioned as a self-guided trail of light installations around Stoke-upon-Trent Town, it transformed into an exhibition of light-based installation artwork and accompanying film series (which can be viewed by scrolling down this page).
Tomorrow’s Garden was co-created by B arts, Space to Connect Community Advisory Group, members of Brighter Futures, ASHA. and the wider Stoke community. It features performances by the newly formed Tomorrow’s Garden performers group.
Installations included artworks made by a number of professional artists including Richard Redwin, Jon-Paul Green, Kwanzaa Collective, Dan Fox and Kidda Kinsey.
Situated in various locations around Stoke town there were large scale illuminated installations, including film, animations, and sound. Tomorrow’s Garden also features a group of volunteer performers.
Tomorrow’s Garden is showcased in a series of films produced in cooperation with Keele University’s Active Partnership Programme.
The work was a collaboration between communities and artists, who through a number of creative workshops explored together the questions:
What do you want to leave behind in 2020, and what do you want to take forward into 2021?
What seed do you want to plant in the garden of tomorrow?
